Knoll Urban Living

By diving into modern design trends and understanding what apartment residents truly need, our team's research and experiences revealed a growing demand for furniture that makes the most of limited space without sacrificing style. This insight became the foundation for a design tailored to the practical requirements of apartment living. Our challenge was to create seating that finds the right balance between looks and functionality, giving equal importance to both. Instead of just designing a chair, we aimed to solve a common problem related to seating. Drawing inspiration from mid-century modern ideals and design philosophies of experts like Mies van der Rohe and Dieter Rams, our team went through an iterative concept development phase. Our Statement of Design Philosophy focuses on providing a space-efficient stool and table for apartment residents, prioritizing a compact structure for easy storage and transport. The result is the Stuo Set – two plus-shaped stools with attachable legs neatly stored under an end table. The removable tabletop and stacked stools not only add function but also create a stylish pattern from any angle. It's a blend of practical design and aesthetics.

Project Opportunity

To further push Stuo Set, as a team we created a hypothetical partnership with Knoll Furniture. Through the Knoll Urban Living Publication, five pieces of furniture are displayed creating a new collection called Knoll Apartments. The publication breaks down the history and journey of Knoll Furniture, along with five furniture pieces diving into the history, construction, and purpose of its use. The Stuo Set would be the newest addition to KnollApartments due to its intentionality of functionality and its versatile use for apartment dwellers.
