The Challenge
How do you make a history book feel like an adventure? That was the big question behind Mini Makers. Traditional children’s books about design can be a little, well… stale. Kids are hands on, not just readers. The challenge was to create something that didn’t just teach design but invited kids to experience it firsthand. We needed a format that was interactive, flexible, and exciting, keeping kids engaged while they learned about legendary designers and their work.
The Solution
The answer? A book that’s more than just a book. Mini Makers: Mid-Century Modern is part activity book, part interactive playground, and part creative guide. Each section is filled with hands-on challenges inspired by real designers, turning abstract concepts into real-world fun. To make it easy for kids to dive in, we designed the book with wire binding so it lays flat, perforated pages for easy tearing, foldouts for big ideas, and pockets for storing works-in-progress. Mini Makers also expands beyond the pages, growing into a full brand with a website, merchandise, and a digital space where creativity comes to life.
The Result
Mini Makers is proving that kids love learning when they can get involved. The unique format and playful approach make design feel like an exciting journey rather than a school lesson. With Volume One laying the foundation, new editions are already in the works to explore other major design movements. What started as a book is growing into something even bigger—a community of young makers ready to shape the world, one creative project at a time.
